alex-milner.jpgLake Zurich senior Alex Milner crossed the finish line in a 3,200-meter run at Lake County Invitational. Even though Milner did not win the Lake County title, he did set a school record by finishing 9 minutes, 18.70 seconds.  Milner earlier this year encountered pain in his left foot, and like many runners he just simply ignored it. Milner continued to feel pain and went to see a doctor. He was diagnosed with sesamoiditis, a condition that caused inflammation to his left foot. Even though, he faced a problematic condition, Milner still reached his goal.

If you are experience foot pain you think might be related to sesamoiditis, it is recommended to seek the care of a podiatrist immediate Dr. Zahid Ladha, F.A.C.F.A.S. of Foot First Podiatry. Dr. Ladhacan diagnose your sesamoiditis and provide the appropriate treatment options.

What is Sesamoiditis?

Sesamoiditis is a condition of the foot that affects the ball of the foot. It is more common in younger people than it is in older people. It can also occur with people who have begun a new exercise program, since their bodies are adjusting to the new physical regimen. Pain may also be caused by the inflammation of tendons surrounding the bones. It is important to seek treatment in its early stages because if you ignore the pain, this condition can lead to more serious problems such as severe irritation and bone fractures.

Causes of Sesamoiditis

· Sudden increase in activity
· Increase in physically strenuous movement without a proper warm up or build up
· Foot structure: those who have smaller, bonier feet or those with a high arch may be more susceptible
