NFL player Dee Milliner of the New York Jets suffered a high ankle sprain, ending his season. As a result, Milliner now faces four to six weeks off the field and on the bench to recover. Official details of the diagnosis are yet to be announced; however, the injury’s severe swelling indicates a Grade 2 sprain.

The athlete will unfortunately not partake in the Jets’ first game of the regular season to ensure full recovery from his injury. Most likely covering for Milliner during this period will be cornerbacks Antonio Allen and Ellis Lankster. “We feel confident that it’s healing nicely,” commented Jets coach Rex Ryan on Milliner’s condition.

Sprained ankles will typically heal correctly when left alone, but sometimes professional help is needed. If you are seeking assistance with a sprained ankle, see podiatrist Dr. Zahid Ladha of Foot First Podiatry. Ankle Sprain Once somebody twists or sprains an ankle, one of the main things to do is ice it and hope for the best later. Others might ignore the discomfort and hope the ankle will settle. Overlooking the ankle twist can end with something of a long-lasting problem which can lead to a lifespan of ankle agony, and arthritis, according to ABC news team reporter Dr. Jay Adlersberg.

One New York pedestrian recently stepped across a poorly paved driveway which resulted in an ankle injury. "I didn't notice it, I just stepped right into the hole, and my foot flopped over to the left, and then it became swollen," said Mercado. Mercado had an ankle sprain, a tear of a ligament or tendon in the ankle. According to Adlersberg, if ankle injuries like this are severe, they can actually break an ankle bone.

If you suffer from an ankle sprain, it is recommended to seek the help of a podiatrist like Dr. Zahid Ladha, F.A.C.F.A.S. of Foot First Podiatry to ensure that your injury is evaluated properly and the appropriate treatment options are given.
